I had the honor of serving as a panelist at the recent Research!America 2015 National Health Research Forum held on September 10, 2015, at The Newseum in Washington, DC. My session titled, “Are we equipped for 21st Century challenges in the public health arena?“, focused on the importance of funding research in community and clinical prevention. I was pleased to have the opportunity of reminding the audience of the critical importance of funding the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality, and the CDC’s Guide to Community Preventive Services. It seems incredulous that given the tsunami of preventable chronic illness that is overwhelming an already unaffordable medical care system, that we are not devoting greater research resources to the promotion of health and the prevention of disease.
