Much of what influences health happens outside of the doctor’s office or hospital, where we live, learn, work, and play. Raising awareness of the social determinants of health in every sector, including health care, is essential to improving the health of people and their communities.
On June 26, the Association of Academic Health Centers released a new, online toolkit to help leaders in health care recognize the health impact of factors such as education, income, and housing, and take action to address them.
I encourage you to explore the toolkit online at wherehealthbegins.org and to share it with others who may be interested.
For more information about the toolkit, please contact Mindy J. McGrath, MPH, Director of Government Relations, Association of Academic Health Centers, at (202) 265-9600 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org. Additional information and resources on the social determinants of health are available on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s website.
